The Traditional Early Childhood program is a structured approach to learning that focuses on teacher-led instruction using standardized curricula. Instruction in traditional classrooms consists of whole-group instruction introducing new concepts followed by break-out work sessions where students work on the new concepts as well as review previous concepts. Student work consists of hands-on activities, games, and manipulatives, as well as traditional pencil-and-paper work on a structured schedule. While teachers do work with students in small groups or individually, the pace of the class is determined by the group.
Traditional Early Childhood classrooms at Saint Andrew Catholic School are lively and full of collaborative learning opportunities where you will find students engaging with concepts in a variety of methods. Traditional students spend time each day working collaboratively with a partner or in small groups, which not only instills confidence and an enthusiasm for learning but also helps to develop an appreciation and understanding of their own learning needs as well as the needs of their classmates.
